The oven for baking or roasting has a user-specified set point for the temperature inside. At the end of the process, a signal is generated. In a number of successive time intervals, the instantaneous temperature is evaluated, the values are all added and the signal is generated when the sum of the temperatures multiplied by the interval span reaches the value of the temperature set point times the total time span (ie when weighted average temperature reaches set point temperature). Temperatures that are so low as not advance the baking or roasting process significantly are rated as zero. The time intervals are all shorter than one minute. The signal may be an optical or acoustic one. ADVANTAGE - Optimum cooking time depending on quantity of food.
