Each level (1,2) permits only one way traffic and each has two or more lanes. The lower carriageway (1) is at an adequate height to allow heavy commercial vehicles and buses to run underneath on the existing conventional motorway. Instead of the conventional motorway, there may be railway or suspended magnetic railways underneath the raised motorway. The supports can be in the centre or at the sides of the raised motorway, or at selected intervals, and they may be of steel or reinforced concrete. The structure can be clad with suitable weather resistant materials. The carriageways are wide enough for vehicles which have been damaged in accidents to be moved to the side without hindering traffic flow and later removed by breakdown vehicles. ADVANTAGE - Costs are subsidised from savings made by the reduction in accidents, traffic jams and repairs to carriageways.
