Simple production of car instrument panel with defroster nozzle - e.g. welding frp base to adaptor of same material which holds nozzle, and doing so before foaming top covering plus decorative film in position

An instrument panel is produced, consisting of a glass-reinforced thermoplastic base with the visible top side covered with foam and a decorative film; the underside of the panel has at least one through hole with at least one defroster nozzle. The base has an adapter, made of the same material as the base itself, by the through holes; this adapter holds the defroster nozzle even before the foaming stage, preferably by being welded on; defroster nozzles are only attached to the adapter after foaming. The panel consists of the glass-reinforced thermoplastic base (2), with the hole (3) surrounded by the lower adapter (4) which is welded on to it (2) before the layer (7) with decorative film (6) surface is foamed up in position. The (at least one) defroster nozzle (5) is connected up to the heater/ventilating system of the car, and extends across a large width of the windscreen (8). The example shown has openings (9) by which the adapter (4) is locked in position with clips (10) projecting from the face of the nozzle (5). Other methods of fixing can be used. ADVANTAGE - The method bonds together a defroster nozzle to the thermoplastic base in a simple manner and only in conjunction with fitting the whole panel into the car concerned.
