The wall (4) of the vertical flue is formed by tubes (12) through which a medium flows. In the bottom part (A) nearest the flame the tubes are joined together gastight, while further up (B) they are mounted alongside each other, leaving intervening gaps. The dividing line (22) can be where the medium in the tubes changes over from the liquid to the gaseous state, and in a portion (C) still further up they can be joined together gastight again. They can have lengthwise ribs running along them. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple fossil-fuelled steam-generator allows high fresh-steam pressure to be produced.
