The method involves moving one workpiece carrier (WTG1) with its casings (GH) by a gripper (GE) of a housing treatment module (GVM) in one plane (E1) into the region of transfer tongs (UZ) of the casing module (GM). The constituent conductors collectively pushed into the casings are detected by an unloading device (EE). When the carrier has been grasped by the tongs, the gripper is moved into a parallel plane (E2) to take up another carrier (WTG2) with more casings from tongs (GMZ) of the casing module, to which the now empty first carrier is transferred for reloading. ADVANTAGE - Casing-workpiece carrier can be transferred immediately to next mfg. stage on prodn. lines free from relatively bulky transfer devices.
