The retainer for cables passing through an opening in the housing of electrical apparatus (117) uses a cup-shaped holder (25) fitting inside the opening, resting on a lip (123), with a clamp (30) pushed down inside the cup. The clamp has a number of radial arms (51) that press outwards against the cup, all lying in a transverse plane. A bolt (73) in the centre tightens it up against the bottom of the cup. The cable (23) passes through the cup and between two of the clamp arms. To help the clamping action, the clamp arms are ribbed. The space between the clamp arms is semi-circular. ADVANTAGE - Simple and inexpensive to manufacture, with effective sealing of cable opening.
