Hardening coat for photographic silver halide material - contains gelatin modified by reaction with N,N-di:alkyl-3-allyl-sulphonyl-methyl-4-sulpho-methyl- -pyrrolidinium betaine

Hardening coat, used for photographic material with light-sensitive Ag halide (AgX) emulsion coat(s) and opt other light-sensitive and/or light-insensitive coats, contains gelatin modified by reaction with an N,N-di-alkyl-3-allylsulphonyl- methyl-4- sulphomethylpyrrolidinium betaine of formula (I) (where R is 1-4C alkyl) and rapid hardener(s) (II). USE/ADVANTAGE - The coat is suitable for colour negative films, colour reversal films and papers, colour papers, instant colour materials and black-and-white materials, e.g, microfilms, aerial photographic films, X-ray films, negative material and photographic paper. The required final hardness (water absorption, swelling and heat resistance) is reached quickly, without impairing the photographic properties. Modification is carried out easily in aq. medium without toxic hazards, the casting quality is good and utilisation of (II) is better than usual.
