The radiation detector has a detector element (2) arranged in a vacuum chamber of a Dewar vessel and mounted on a wall (1) cooled by a Joule-Thomson cooler. The cooling effect of the cooler is dependent on the temp. of the wall section carrying the detector element. An electrical temp. sensor is mounted on the wall section next to the detector element. Its electrical signal controls the flow of coolant in an expansion region of the cooler to maintain constant the detector element temp. USE/ADVANTAGE - Radiation detector with cryogenic cooling system. The radiation detector is improved to achieve increased temp. stability of the detector element and more rapid control response.
