A programmable controller has an internal bus (1) that supports a microprocessor (2), a memory (3) and two microcontroller units (4,5). External bus access is made via one of the controllers (4) and supports peripherals. The other control module (5) accesses a second memory (7) and controls a signal-transmitting LED (8). The LED is operated at a pulse rate that radiates status conditions in the form of coded text, e.g. ASCII or Morse code. The clock rate is adjustable. USE/ADVANTAGE - Allows coded status messages to be generated.
