The porous clay and/or slate has a content of immobilised microorganisms. Also claimed is a process for mfg. the porous clay and/or slate where it is placed in a reaction vessel together with a suspension of micro organisms, to be stirred. The clay and/or slate is broken so that it is treated with bacteria as microorganisms which can convert hydrocarbons. The material has a grain size of 4-8 mm. In the prodn., the material is stirred in the reaction vessel for 2-200 hrs., pref. 20-70 hrs., esp. 50 hrs.. The reactor is a fluid mixed bed type with a propeller stirring unit. At least part of the O2 supply is through the addn. of H2O2 introduced at the level of the stirrer. The reaction vessel is in a constant link with a fermentation assembly where the microorganisms are cultivated. USE/ADVANTAGE - The porous clay and/or slat is used for cleaning soiled material such as contaminated soil. The material gives an effective cleaning action through the content of microorganisms which are in a suitable environment.
