The polishing tool carrier (20) is on the end of a slider (19) which slides in a guide slot (18) of a bracket (15) with a pivot (16) on the housing (17). On a shaft (3) synchronously driven from a first shaft (1) is an eccentric pin (9) on which rotates a roller (10) with an eccentric OD. The roller can move along a slot (13) in the bracket (15). Secured to the end of the roller is a pulley (11) which is driven with a speed step up of 3:1 from a larger pulley (8) mounted on shaft (1) and having the same eccentricity as the pin (9). At the same time the slider (19) is reciprocated in the bracket (15) by a connecting rod (21) driven from a crankpin (22) on the shaft (1). The resultant motion of the polishing tool carrier (20) is circular or elliptical with a superimposed higher frequency oscillation. USE/ADVANTAGE - Linkage produces accurate, overlapping polishing paths without noise or excessive wear. Better polishing action and reduced polishing time.
