Prodn. of co-ordination cpds. (I) of 3(5)-methylpyrazole (IIA) or 1-carbamoyl-, 1-guanyl- or 1-thiocarbamoyl-3-methylpyrazole (IIB), of the formula Ab(C)ns.Xq,.Em' (I) comprises reacting (II) with the corresp. metal salt MeXq (III); C = (MHr)p-Me-(Em)(Xq))ns; M = (II); r = 1 or 0; p = 1-8; X = mono- or polydentate ligand(s), which may = inorg. and/or organic anions, with q = 0-6; in (complex) anions outside the first co-ordination sphere, q' = over 0 and max 4; E = solvent with m or m' = 0-12; A = the cation with b = 1-4 in anionic complexes or b = 0 in neutral and cationic complexes; s = 0-6; n = 1-4 and greater than 1 for polynuclear complexes; Me = V, Ca, Mn, Cu, Al, Mg, Ni, Zn, Co, Fe, Mo and/or Cr ion(s), which may be different in di- or oligomeric (I); in a non-absolute organic solvent (IV) and/or water. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used as nitrification inhibitor, opt. in the form of the reaction soln. obtd. without direct isolation (claimed).(I) with various metal acceptor cpds. can be produced by a simple and reproducible process, without using dehydrating agent or anhydrous (IV). Isomerisation of 3-methylpyrazole (IIA-3) to 5-methylpyrazole (IIA-5) is minimised.
