A yarn guide rod is for a crosswound package production machine and consists of subrods (6') formed out of fibres embedded into a plastic matrix. The fibres embedded in a plastic matrix are positioned in the shape of a compact rod body (9') in a tubular, wear resistant shell (7'). The bodies are joined to the shell (7') in a slide-resistance manner. The fibres embedded in the matrix are carbon fibres and the tubular shell (7') has thin walls and is made of steel. The slide-resistant connection of the subrods (6') is an adhesive connection or is formed by a force fit. The connection can also consist of detachable arrangements. ADVANTAGE - The rod body is screened completely and there is no need to take precautions to protect the running yarn against eventually occurring abrasion.
