The image information of the individual images referring to the component (1) are combined and evaluated, using the electronic storage and evaluation unit (9). The component (1) during the photographing of the sequence of the individual images is rotated pref. at a constant speed and about its central axis (5). The two-dimensional structural characteristics of a sectional view, removable with each individual image, are determined. The two-dimensional characteristics are combined with data concerning the origin of the individual images and the respectively determined view of the component (1) to give a description of the three-dimensional structure of the component (1). ADVANTAGE - Gives equidistant scanning of surface, and requires no re-regulation of image focus. Measurement can be automatic or manual with simple manipulation and can be carried out with greater accuracy.
