The feeder takes sheets one by one from a stack by vertically and horizontally running suction belts which transfer them to suction rollers comprising several discs (3). The rollers on opposite sides of the machine are driven independently and at different speeds under the control of electrical pulses from intermediate rows of CCD imaging cells (18-20) on a fixture whose shape corresponds to that of the rollers. This ensures that the leading edge of each sheet is aligned with a row of cells. ADVANTAGE - Each sheet is oriented after sepn. without recourse to abutments for its leading edge and sides or to sheet stopper.
