摘要
Optical signals are transmitted over a transmission line (U) from a transmitter (S) to a receiver (E) via an optical amplifier (V). The optical receiver (E) provides a switch-on signal (UE) to the amplifier (V) which is then regulated to its normal output power (NAN). If the transmission line (U) is broken or interrupted, the signal (UE) is not provided from the receiver (E) to the amplifier (V) and the amplifier (V) is thus regulated, by the controller (18), to give a reduced output power (NAV). After the interruption has been removed, the output power (NAV) of the optical amplifier (V) undergoes a low frequency modulation for a short time (tm). After this time, the output power is reverted to its normal level (NAN). ADVANTAGE - Ensures safe and reliable operation and data transmission.
