In the pyrotechnical fusion joining of aluminium sheets, spaced indentations (9,10) are produced at least in one of the sheets (1,2). Fusion elements (5) with a combustion charge are inserted into hollows formed by the indentations (9,10) with the resulting assembly held in place by means of tools. The combustion charges are ignited to join, without expansion, the fusion elements (5) and the sheets (1,2) with one another. The fusion element consists of a hollow housing of fusion metal primarily aluminium for a combustion charge, with an outlet provided for combustion gases. Aluminium sheets used with the method are provided within their edge region with at least one indentation (9,10). The indentations can run over the entire length of the sheet edges to be joined. Fusion elements in the shape of cylinders, barrels and lenses are used dependent on the indentation shape. The housing of the fusion element is covered with a chemical agent which eliminates the oxide film of aluminium at least under the influence of heat. USE/ADVANTAGE - In the mfr. of components made up of aluminium sheets. At low cost, the method is applicable on industrial scale.
