The impact sensor (5) has a multi-layer structure with electrical conductor foils (10,14) and intermediate insulation foils for insulation papers (15), attached to a stable part of the vehicle body (4) which supports a number of needles (17,18) penetrating the multi-layer structure upon impact. Pref. at least one of the conductor foils (10) is divided into relatively insulated segmental surfaces allowing the impact point to be determined. The sensor can be attached to a vehicle door panel via an incompressible adhesive foil (21), or adhesive layer. USE/ADVANTAGE - For activating passenger airbag or seat belt locking system. Minimal electronic and logic circuitry required.
