The base (15) forms part of a telescopic tube (3) between the cylinder (11) and column (5) and possessing a guide sleeve (2). The column has a sliding sleeve (1) in which the telescopic tube moves axially. The telescopic tube is enclosed by a spiral spring (4) supported by its bottom end (7) between the radially outer column and, by its top end (6), on the radially inner telescopic tube. The telescopic pipe top end has a collar (8) supporting the spiral spring whose bottom end rests on the sliding sleeve fitment, protruding beyond the column. The guide sleeve and/or sliding sleeve is axially secured by fastenings (10). An elastic stop (13) is positioned between the cylinder and axial ball bearing (12). USE/ADVANTAGE - The lifting mechanism with a gas spring is continuously adjustable and lockable and sets the height of furniture pieces.
