The biochip is produced by deposition of a Langmuir-Blodgett monomolecular film of protein (e.g. bacteriorhodopsin) on the surface of water in a container. The film is transferred to the surface of a Si or quartz plate. The molecular components are concatenated to one another and to the proteins, producing millions of identical logic gates or content-addressable memory cells. A monoclonal antibody is attached to a protein macromolecule, another antibody is joined to it and identical peptides are added to both antibodies to permit electrical connections. ADVANTAGE- NAND gates can be interconnected so that they can perform functions of all other gates to form simple, flexible computer logic circuit. Molecular logic elements are a thousand times faster than corresp. silicon elements.
