The two parallel longitudinal beams which are connected to form a frame by several transverse cross bars are made from sheet metal bent into profiled sections. They have several holes (47,59) periodically repeated to form a grid in the longitudinal direction of the beams. These holes are used to pass through components and/or fixing devices for the cross bars and/or to fit the drive unit and/or the endless transport chains (27) anywhere in the profiled sections. The beams preferably have a C-shaped profile with vertical side wall and two right angled arms which support the endless chains. The holes can be made by lasers. ADVANTAGE- Greater versatility. The conveyor can quickly be adapted to individual requirements.
