C1-inactivator can be used to combat complications during operations using conditions involving extracorporeal circulation. USE - C1-inactivator has a positive effect in the therapy of progressive dysfunction of organ systems and reduced heart performance (in patients with extracorporeal circulation). The C1-inactivator combats the symptoms such as generalised oedema and refractory hypotension produced by activation of the hallikrein system in cases where not enough C1-inactivator is produced naturally to control the kallikrein system. Suitable daily doses are 1-5000 (esp. 5-1000) units/kg administered intravenously (bolus or infusion) intra-muscularly or subcutaneously. Solid pharmaceutical forms contain 1-300,000 (esp. 50-60000) units daily for use p.o. or rectally.
