The beam has a moulded and particularly extruded body (7), in which is a passage (19) extending for its full length. A one-piece core (21) extending for the full beam length is contained in the passage, and is of material with a greater resistance to bending and tension loads than the body itself. The core can consist of a bar of plywood, particularly veneer, and it can be a clearance fit in the passage in the transverse direction. Alternatively it can be of smaller cross-section than the passage, the intervening space containing filler material. USE/ADVANTAGE - Strong and easily produced extruded beam made of bonded wood particles.
