Method for producing thin plates of natural or artificial stone - involves original plate produced with at least double the required thickness and then divided into two individual plates of predetermined thickness parallel to two opposing outer surfaces
The original plate (1) is produced of natural stone with a thickness which is double that of the two individual plates (2) to be separated from it plus the dim. of the saw. The original plate is approximately rectangular and has two parallel outer surfaces (1a, 1b) together with an irregular break edge (1c). In a first stage (I) the first of the outer surfaces (1a), which later forms the view surface of one of the individual plates, is polished with a customary tool (3). On this polished outer surface in a second stage (II) a self-adhesive protective foil (4) is fitted. In a third stage (III) a dividing layer is adhered to the outer surface (1a) provided with the protective foil. This dividing layer consists of polystyrene foam. The dividing layer (5) is so thick that a sawable or cutting tool can pass through it without coming out of the surface facing or turned away from the original plate (1). The dividing layer (5) has straight edges (5a) and is so big that the edge (1c) of the original plate does not project at any point of the edge (5a) of the dividing layer (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - To produce thin plates of natural or artificial stone. The process permits original plates without linear edges to be processed.
