The pen recorder or printer has a writing point (11) is brought into contact with a recording surface, for depositing ink. The rear end is coupled to an ink supply reservoir bag (14) having a flexible wall allowing its volume to alter in dependence on the quantity of ink contained in the reservoir. The ink supply reservoir is coupled to a number of ink storage spaces (17,18) of lesser volume, each of which is individually plastically deformable, to supply the contained ink to the reservoir. Pref. the ink storage spaces comprise a number of spherical spaces lying in series with one another, each having foil walls allowing them to be compressed in sequence to feed the ink to the supply reservoir.
