The imaging system uses two probes (2A, 2B), each with an image reception device at the front end of an elongate insertion section, providing two different signal waveforms or signal functions. Each probe is coupled via a cable to a respective adapter (4A, 4B) providing a driver signal matched to the image reception device. Each adapter can be coupled in turn to a signal processing stage (5) providing a standard image signal from each received signal, displayed on a monitor (6). Pref., at least one image reception device comprises an electronic endoscope, each supplied by a respective light source (3A, 3B), their signals supplied via the adapters to a video processor (5) supplying the monitor and a video recorder (7). USE/ADVANTAGE - For examination of internal organs adjacent patient's heart with two different imaging devices employing common components for reduced cost.
