The computer system includes several computers (e.g. 4-1) in a network. Each computer incorporates a self-monitor (5-1), a transmitter (6-1-1) for important messages and a self-monitoring transmitter (7-1-1) for messages in general. A common monitoring computer (2) is installed between a data transmission unit (3) such as a Fibre Distributed Data Interface and a CRT display device (1) showing an interactive operational window and display windows for the individual computers and for the important messages. The receivers (e.g.14-1) accept messages from the particular computers to which they are assigned irrespective of any messages from the others. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in distributed systems with time-varying monitoring ranges and number of computers, efficient and reliable monitoring is achievable without limited message length.
