A method for controlling the extreme value of the operating point of a power transducer, preferably a regenerative power supply system, especially a photovoltaic system, having a characteristic power curve with a distinct maximum or minimum, the following measures being provided: a) excitation of the system from a constant value on the power characteristic which can be different from zero, by inputting a current or voltage set point; b) determination of the extent of change in power by forming the difference between the current instantaneous value of the power and the mean value of its constant value; c) determination of the magnitude of the time-related change of the current or voltage input value by evaluating the extent of the change in power; d) addition of this value to the previous current or voltage input value.
