A monolithic ceramic filter has a honeycomb structure with a partition wall section which extends from within the honeycomb structure to an outer wall surface and which has increased thickness compared with the rest of the partition wall so that a flow resistance relaxation section is formed. A monolithic ceramic filter has a honeycomb structure including communication cavities separated from the honeycomb cells by the filter cell partition walls, the cavities being in communication with the outside of the honeycomb structure over its entire length and extending over its entire axial length. Also claimed is prodn. of the above ceramic filters by extrusion. USE/ADVANTAGE - For fine filtration, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis (claimed). The filter is compact, has a large filtration area and low filtrate flow resistance and is easy to massproduce industrially.
