The lenses incorporate each a liq. crystal layer between two electrodes to which electric potentials are applied via wires routed through an earpiece. The technology is that employed in mfr. of reflecting displays, with the omission of the mirror and polarisers. The thickness of the liq. crystal film may be between 10 and 200 microns according to the desired mode of operation. Auxiliary appts. is also disclosed with an inductive loop around the earpiece, and an LED and photodiode on opposite sides of the lens. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for eyesight testing and correction in children. Control of occlusion in predetermined periodic rhythm is less uncomfortable than abrupt mechanical operation.
