The speed governor (4) is formed as a pressure balance serving as a positioning drive for the fuel injection (3) of the IC engine. The pressure balance has a high pressure piston (5) to which is coaxially connected a low pressure piston (6). The high pressure piston (5) is fed with a predetermined pressure on the side turned away from the low pressure piston from the outlet of the high pressure pump (1) and the low pressure piston (6) is fed on the side turned away from the high pressure piston from a compressed air source (8). Connected beyond the compressed air source (8) is a pressure switch (11) for changeover of the compressed air from the side facing the high pressure piston (5) to the side of the low pressure piston (6) turned away from the high pressure piston when a predetermined min. operating pressure is exceeded or not attained. USE/ADVANTAGE - The operating pressure is regulated so that it is uninfluenced by the mass flow of the high pressure fluid.
