To permit easy installation of the crane, pedestals (1) are set up at critical locations around the plant or works. The pedestals have a bearing plate (2) and a central pivot pin on which the crane (100) locates. The crane, which may be transportable in several parts, has a swivelling bracket (3) with a bore which fits over the central pivot pin. Rollers (5.2, 5.4) ride on the top and bottom surfaces of the bearing plate and provide positive constraint against tipping.
