Resin compsn. (IA) or paint (IB) with high solids content contains an acrylic oligomer (II) with blocked OH gps., Mn = max. 1500 and an OH gp. concn. after dissociation = min. 2.2 mole/1000 g; a hardener (III) reacting with OH gps.; and a dissociation or hardening catalyst (IV). Pref. (I) may also contain a polyester oligomer (V) with OH gp. concn. = min. 2.0 mole/1000 g; or a cpd. (VI) contg. acid anhydride gps. and an epoxide cpd. (VIII), (V), (VI) and (VII) having Mn = max. 1500. The painting process comprises coating a substrate rotating about a horizontal axis over a period from at least before the start of curtain formation of the coated (I) until the end of curtain formation, so that there is practically curtain formation during painting; and opt. baking. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used in coating substrates turning about a horizontal axis, with practically no curtain formation (claimed). It is useful for coating metal materials and prods. for cars and on materials of construction. (I) has better resistance to acids and pit and pinhole formation than usual, low viscosity and excellent solubility in organic solvents. The paint films are smooth and resistant to solvents, weathering and scratching.
