The brake system includes a main tandem cylinder (2) with a hydraulic intensifier (5) and wheel braking cylinders (51-54) for each wheel. Solenoid valves are provided for feeding pressure to the main and wheel braking cylinders. An auxiliary power source (20) compresses the braking fluid supplied from the low pressure reservoir (4). Regulators connected with the auxiliary source are provided for the dynamic hydraulic braking pressure for regulating the output pressure as a pressure, which is regulated in a determined relationship to the main cylinder, depending on the hydraulic braking pressure given by the depression of the foot pedal (3). A changeover valve is located between the main cylinder (2) and the valve units and in a first operating setting selectively connects the valve units with the main cylinder and blocks the communication between the valve units and the regulating units. Control units move the changeover valve from the first to the second operating setting, and operate the valve units, for regulating the braking pressure in the rear wheel braking cylinders in a certain relationship to the hydraulic braking pressure in the front wheel brake cylinder.
