Active front bumper in which one or more telescopically mounted bumper frames comprising a bumper bar (21) and the support brackets (23) are moved from the passive position by inertia forces created as a result of braking. The bumper frames move against spring elements (28,34) to a deceleration-dependent capture position where they are held by locking pieces (27). The release of the locking effect is achieved by actuating the accelerator pedal (30) allowing the bumper assembly to return to the passive position. USE/ADVANTAGE - Active front bumper for vehicle contains damage at low speed collisions and minimises damage in higher speed crashes.
