Metal slabs are removed individually from the supply container by a ratchet feed device. During their transport to the processing machine, the slabs (5) are pressed elastically against the transport plane (3) by a pressure unit (6) containing a spring assembly (14) which is pliable perpendicular to the transport plane. This spring assembly can be formed by a spring steel belt with an upper side (18) covering the serpentine windings (17). A retaining belt extends along the underneath of the spring unit. USE/ADVANTAGE- Smooth fault-free transport of metal slab.
