High speed electric motor drive - has main shaft within contra-rotating sleeve driving shaft and driven by housing using brushless synchronous motors

The drive has a rotating shaft (1) with a rotor (11) of magnetically anisotropic material. The shaft sleeve (3) has a stator (13) with a field winding to magnetise the rotor in a particular direction and a second rotor (19), also magnetically anisotropic. Around the sleeve is the housing (7) with a second stator (21) whose field winding magnetises the second rotor in a particular direction. The unit behaves as a double brushless synchronous motor. The stator armature windings are used to accelerate the rotors to high speeds, the armature currents being ninety degrees phase-displaced from the magnetising currents. The shaft and sleeve rotate in opposite directions. ADVANTAGE - High speed drive providing many power outputs.
