The paper web guide system at a papermaking machine press section, to transfer the web, has a smooth roller to carry the web at its surface and a second swing roller with a surface which is partially air permeable and elastic. The interior of the second roller is subjected at least partially to a vacuum, with an air passage link between the roller surface and its interior. Pref. the second roller surface has a zone which is subjected to a strong suction action and a zone with a weaker suction, and a further surface zone where there is no suction effect. USE/ADVANTAGE - The mechanism is for the transfer of a paper web in the papermaking machine press section, without applying draw tension to the web. The operation gives an effective transfer and movement to the web, with a secure grip at the transfer roller, and prevents the web from becoming detached on its movement path.
