Device for recording identity information (19/31), in particular for measuring the sporting time and/or monitoring and possibly clearing in the course of access controls or transportation of goods is to be designed to be as secure as possible against manipulation. For this purpose, a distinction is made between local recording areas, in which respectively at least one reader unit (reader) (22) is installed, and at least one central processing region which is located elsewhere from said reader unit, operated under special control and at which an evaluation unit (43) is operated. The data transmission between the recording region and the processing region is performed to a certain extent "corporeally" by means of an operating unit (30) which is connected only either to the reader unit (22) or to the evaluation unit (43). The items of identity information (19), which are picked up in coded form by the reader unit (22) and retrieved (recalled), encoded anew, therefrom by the operating unit (30), are combined at the instant they are picked up with an item of real time information (27) from an autonomous internal clock circuit (28). The latter is checked by means of a radio clock at certain intervals with the aid of the standard time, and corrected if necessary. If the correction value exceeds a certain magnitude, this fact is additionally logged (printed out), because the time correction can be due to a malfunction of the clock circuit (28) or external manipulation of the radio telegram picked up by the time receiver (29).
