The invention relates to the use of ascorbic acid and to pharmaceutical compositions containing ascorbic acid. In organisms, especially humans, there are various disorders in the genital region such as, for example, wart formation, dysplasias, disturbance of the vaginal flora and purulent colpitis. The invention is based on the object of providing a pharmaceutical composition whose active ingredient provides a remedy for these problematic disorders. This is possible, surprisingly, by the use of vitamin C = ascorbic acid which has not hitherto been employed in the genital region either as vaginal ointment or as vaginal tablets.
