PURPOSE:To obtain a high-MW polymer having a high trans-1,4 bond content and a low vinyl bond content in a high polymerization activity by polymerizing a conjugated diene by using a catalyst composition containing a Ba compound, an organoaluminum compound, an organolithium compound and an alcohol or a phenol compound as a polymerization catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A monomer based on a conjugated diene is polymerized by using a catalyst composition containing a barium compound (A) (e.g. dinoxylphenoxy barium) and an organic aluminum compound (B) (e.g. triethylaluminum), an organolithium compound (C) (e.g. n-butyllithium) and hydroxy compound (D) of the formula: HOR (wherein R is a 1-20C alkyl, a 6-20C aryl or an O- and/or N-containing hydrocarbon group) (e.g. diethylaminoethanol) in an inert organic solvent to obtain a high-trans low-vinyl conjugated diene polymer (of a trans bond content in the diene part of 70-90% desirably 75-88% and a vinyl bond content of 3-10% desirably 4-9%).
