The drainage system is formed from a pipe held by a tubular support structure (1) comprising structural steel bars (2) running lengthwise and around the pipe which cross each other. Where the steel bars intersect (3) they are soldered together. There is also a covering made of a fine metal or plastics mesh (4) which is placed over the support structure and attached with clamps or twisted wires. The supporting structure is made by folding a mat of structural steel bars and soldering them at the edges. The structure may be circular, rectangular, square or triangular in shape.
