A switch (10), operated by opening the driver's door of a vehicle, energises a bistable relay (4) to close one pair of contacts (T). These maintain an earth return for a contactor (11) linked to the vehicle's throttle pedal. When the pedal is next depressed, a second bistable relay (1) is energised so that a pair of its contacts interrupt either the fuel pump or ignition circuits of the vehicle.
