Composition for cleaning the ventilation system and controlled mechanical ventilation installations containing in the form of a mother solution (to be diluted at the time of use, preferably with four times its volume of water): (a) from 1 to 10 % and preferably from 1 to 5 % weight/volume of a caustic alkali; (b) from 0.2 to 10 % and preferably from 1 to 5 % by weight of an anionic or nonionic surface-active agent or a mixture thereof; (c) from 0.1 to 2.5 % weight/volume of a cationic surface-active agent; (d) from 0.1 to 10 % weight/volume of a solvent chosen from C2-C4 glycols and ethers thereof; as well as the adjuvants commonly used in cleaning solutions. The mother solution and the cleaning composition are stable on storage and make it possible to efficiently degrease, clean and disinfect air ducts and ventilation shafts and similar installations.
