The invention relates to a thermoelectric device operating between two fluid flows, one gaseous and the other liquid, at different temperatures. It can operate either as a heat pump, or as an electrical current generator. The device consists of the assembly of a plurality of identical columns, each formed by an alternating stack of gas heat exchangers 1 and liquid heat exchangers 3 held in compression by tie rods 7, at least one active piece 6 containing the thermoelectric material being interposed between two successive heat exchangers.
