Test apparatus of the test pieces (11) in the form of small plates, in which the test specimen is gripped between two pairs of jaws (12, 13) which can be brought together. The jaws (12, 13) are mounted on the plates (1, 4) without redundancy, which reduces the risk of parasitic forces. The test specimen can be cut so that its median part is subjected to shear. The jaws then have a length sufficient to cover almost as far as the notches of the main faces of the test piece (11). The field of shear is maximum and almost uniform in the middle surface situated between the notches. This invention is useful for characterizing the interlaminar shear plates made of composite materials, including for the test pieces.
