A device for determining the distributions of the dimensions of the particles, in the range of 0,03 to 10 μm by measuring the extinction of the light spectrum, comprises a cup which is transparent (3) of receiving a suspension of particles in a transparent liquid, a means (1) to be illuminated by transparency the cup (3) with the aid of the light beams of different wavelengths, at least a photodetector (d1 to d4) in order to measure the transmission t (lambda, t) from light during the sedimentation, and an analyzer to calculate the distribution on the basis of measurements. The apparatus also includes a photocentrifugeuse receiving at least one cup (3), and an analyzer determining said distribution q3 (x) by means of numerical solutions which are separated from an equation integral to the wavelengths used.
