The evaporator and salt extractor, especially for soil in which plants are grown, consists of a porous rod containing a series of fine capillary bores, which soaks up and evaporates excess moisture in the soil, together with unwanted salts which it contains. The rod can be made from clay mixed thoroughly with cellulose fibres so that each fibre is separate from the others and surrounded by clay. The clay is then moulded to the required shape and baked, burning away the cellulose and leaving a multiplicity of capillary channels.The rod can be cleaned from time to time with acetic acid and rinsed before returning to the soil. Before replacing, a slowly decomposing fertiliser such as powdered horn can be put into the hole. ADVANTAGE/USE - Especially suitable for removing excess moisture and calcium from soils in plant pots.
