Moving ferromagnetic object locating and size evaluating device - uses three magnetometers disposed in a triangle with a fourth at a distance feeding a neural network.
The appts. comprises three magnetometers (5,6,7) ideally arranged in an equilateral triangle, surrounding the area being scanned, with a fourth magnetometer (8) in the same plane as the other three but at a distance to one side. Three signals are extracted by subtracting the signal from the distant magnetometer from each of the three triangular magnetometers. The signals are fed to a neural network previously trained to recognise the size and location of an object creating such signals. USE/ADVANTAGE - Locating metallic objects in timber with extensions into military target identification without use of electromagnetic radiation and unaffected by nearby magnetic objects. Capable of setting the location and azimuth in a zone of 200 m dia and upto 3 hectares of open country side.
