Appts. for moving large bolts (1) between horizontal storage position and a second position, in which they are received vertically in respective apertures (3) spaced round a ring (2), comprises a powered vehicle (20) running on wheels, driven by an operator and carrying a pair of jaws (26) to grip a bolt and means to swing the bolt between horizontal and vertical positions and to lift or lower it to or from an aperture (3). USE/ADVANTAGE - Moving bolts which are used to secure the lid of a large vessel such as a nuclear reactor pressure vessel, before or after screwing or unscrewing the bolts. Ring (2) holds the bolts in position matching bolt holes in the lid. Single vehicle performs series of actions previously peformed by separate machines.
